While mourning for the Holy Martyrs of Kerbala our eyes were forcibly torn to look towards Palestine.  The Israeli response to the Intifada was heartlessly escalated to a war upon the entire population of Palestine.  Sights like these have not been seen since the Soviet invasion of Hungary by an allegedly civilised country.  Pictures of thousands of dead, wounded and displaced civilians have caused people throughout the world to re-evaluate their acceptance of the image that Israel has for so long tried to represent itself with.  Most recently claiming that any, "civilised country would act in the same way to its' civilians being killed by bomb attacks."  Has Spain destroyed the Basque region?  Has Italy invaded Sicily to root out the seeds of the Mafia?  Can they show any cities destroyed by the British army in Ireland?  The essentially unjust principles and beliefs upon which the state of Israel was implanted into the Middle East are clearly seen to be the same today as when the Israeli gangs bombed their way to power.  A campaign that many of Israel's elder "statesmen" still boast about.

Politicians in Europe have now joined the call for sanctions and boycotts of Israeli trade and this should be encouraged but it needs to go further if a lasting peace is to be built in the region.  Not only must Israel be forced to stop the destruction but steps must also be taken to finance the reconstruction of the Palestinian Territories
