AL-MAHDI INSTITUTE

2. The Popular Prophetic Tradition: The popular Prophetic tradition accepted by both schools of thought, whose words are the very same expression as the Precept " Islam absolves what was prior to it". This tradition is mentioned in many books and appears in [many] places, such as in the Majma' al-Bahrayn, Sirah ibn Hashim, al-Sirah al-Halabiyyah, al-Tabaqat al-Kubra and al-Bihar al-Anwar (in the chapter of the judgements of the Commander of the Faithful) and other, however the report is Mursal 4, but objection against its worth through Irsal is alleviated by means of popularity if its acceptance, as is apparent.

3. The Conduct (Sîrah) of the Prophet: It is known that the conduct of the Prophet was established in accordance with this procedure/course (i.e. forgiveness for what has passed), and that the Prophet (may the blessings of God be on him and his family) did not charge and demand anyone of his companions for carrying out (to repay), that which they had abandoned as regards to worship while in the state of disbelief, and that he did not establish the penal code (hadd) for the acts [of sin] the companions had perpetrated prior to embracing Islam. There is neither dispute nor obscurity in this issue.
